Founding AI Engineer | London | AI-first product studio - £100,000 - £130,000 + Equity
I'm working with a well-funded early-stage startup that's rethinking how interactive content gets built in an AI-first world. They've recently closed a multi-million-dollar round backed by leading technology and gaming investors, and are now building out the team that turns model progress into a product people actually want to use.
This is a founding hire working directly with the founder and founding engineering team to build the agent systems that bridge the gap between a spec and something shipped.

The role
- Design, build and operate the pipeline that takes a product from spec to shipped build: planning, generation, review and release
- Build evaluation and regression tooling that catches quality issues before they ship
- Build the routing layer that picks the right model for each step on quality, latency and cost
- Own retrieval and context systems, with a path into fine-tuning models on the data the platform generates
- Have real scope to shape how AI is used across the whole product, not bolted onto one feature

- Someone who follows the field closely and is already testing new models and techniques as they land
- Production experience with LLM systems: multi-step pipelines, tool-using agents, or eval infrastructure
- A strong systems engineering background (TypeScript preferred, but deep experience elsewhere is fine)
- Experience designing and running evals: test sets, benchmarks, regression tracking
- A track record of managing inference cost alongside quality and latency in something live
- Comfortable in an early-stage, in-person, high-ownership environment
