Generative AI Research Scientist

Location: London Or Edinburgh
Salary: Very Competitive


We’re partnering with an established financial services organisation to recruit a Generative AI Research Scientist, helping identify where emerging AI techniques can make a meaningful difference to customers and the business.

You’ll shape research questions, explore new approaches and test what works. This is a practical research role with responsibility for turning ideas into validated propositions and helping engineers bring successful outcomes into production.

What you’ll be doing

  • Exploring model families, retrieval, agentic patterns and multimodal approaches
  • Designing experiments, benchmarks and test sets to evaluate accuracy, safety, bias and robustness
  • Guiding model customisation, including fine tuning strategies and data selection
  • Building prototypes and validating ideas with real users and data
  • Defining quality standards and advising on model risk and interpretability
  • Contributing to research, publications or intellectual property and collaborating with engineering teams

What we’re looking for

  • Strong foundations in machine learning, statistics and experimental design
  • Practical experience with fine tuning, prompt engineering and rigorous model evaluation
  • Deep understanding of GenAI architectures and their trade offs
  • The ability to interpret results and defend conclusions with clear evidence
  • A record of taking GenAI concepts from an initial idea to a validated proposition
  • Understanding of model risk, data governance and financial services regulation
  • Clear communication with technical, business and risk stakeholders
