NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a key member of our ward team, where you will play an essential role in supporting patients, relatives and clinical staff in a busy healthcare environment. You will be the first point of contact for those arriving on the ward, welcoming patients, relatives and visitors through the door entry system and guiding them appropriately, while ensuring all security, health and safety, and infection control measures are followed at all times.

Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

There Are Two Permanent Posts Available

  • Post 1 - 19.5hrs - Thursday - Friday 0900-1600 & Saturday 0830-1500

Please note this is a Greater Glasgow and Clyde-wide post and can be moved to any location; however, the initial base will be Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Manage incoming telephone calls to the ward, taking and relaying messages accurately to members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide clear and sensitive information to relatives regarding patients’ conditions, as directed by nursing staff, helping to maintain effective communication and reassurance.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and presentable reception and clerical area, including equipment such as computers, telephones and case note trolleys, ensuring a professional and welcoming environment.
  • Use the TrakCare Patient Management System to admit, discharge and transfer patients, as well as pre-admit patients in preparation for their arrival.
  • Regularly cross-check the ward bed census whiteboard against TrakCare to ensure accurate and up-to-date patient information.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically. Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers. Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
