About the Opportunity
The Chemistry and Radioanalytical Solutions business at Amentum is recruiting for a P401 qualified Asbestos Analyst based in Birchwood, Warrington to work with a team of highly qualified technicians, analysts, and senior scientists. For this role, the asbestos analyst will be working with a range of national and international clients. They will need to work collaboratively with other business areas to support analytical processes and solutions to the problems of tomorrow, including operational and decommissioning sites. The asbestos analyst role provides day-to-day support to the Delivery Lead in maintaining and supporting the laboratory preparation team activities and the continued improvement of laboratory standards. The role also supports routine safety activities and helps promote a positive quality and safety culture across the laboratory.

You will play a key role in the identification and analysis of asbestos-containing materials, undertaking both asbestos bulk identification and qualitative and quantitative asbestos analysis in soils. You will be responsible for producing accurate analytical reports and certificates of analysis, ensuring compliance with industry standards and supporting project managers in delivering timely results to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Analysing asbestos bulk & soil samples using polarised light microscopy (PLM)
- Identifying asbestos fibre types in accordance with HSG248 guidance
- Recording and reporting analytical findings accurately
- Processing samples within agreed turnaround times
- Ensuring compliance with UKAS standards, HSE guidance, and laboratory procedures
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment
- Produce accurate reports and certificates of analysis.
- Assist with general laboratory and office-based duties
- Maintain a high standard of quality, accuracy, and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
During periods of lower asbestos sample throughput, you will be cross trained in other areas of the business, providing valuable experience and supporting your professional development and career progression within Amentum.
This is an important role that directly contributes to the high-quality analytical and consultancy services for which Amentum is recognised.

Here's What You'll Need
- BOHS P401 qualification.
- Significant experience in asbestos bulk identification and/or asbestos in soil analysis.
- Strong understanding HSG248 and analytical techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Competent with Excel
Desirable Requirements
- BOHS P408 qualification.
- Experience working within a UKAS-accredited laboratory environment.
- Knowledge of asbestos testing in environmental and contaminated land samples.
