The company has worked on projects across the UK, from schools and historic buildings to social housing, commercial properties, and major redevelopment projects. With an experienced team and accredited testing facilities, Westland provides expert advice and practical solutions, helping ensure buildings are safe and projects can move forward with confidence.
As an Asbestos Surveyor & Analyst Apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience both out on customer sites and in the laboratory. You'll learn how to inspect buildings for potential asbestos-containing materials, safely collect samples, use specialist microscopes to identify asbestos fibres, and carry out air monitoring. Working alongside experienced professionals, you'll receive structured training and develop the practical and technical skills needed to work towards recognised industry qualifications.
Please note: You must be 18+ and have a full UK manual driving licence and access to your own car due to the nature of the role.
The Package
- Salary: National Minimum Wage (dependent on age)
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch

Key Responsibilities
We are pleased to offer an opportunity for 2 Apprentices to join the team, gaining hands-on experience in asbestos surveying, sampling, air monitoring, and laboratory analysis.
Day To Day
- Accompany experienced surveyors on site visits and learn how asbestos surveys are carried out across domestic, commercial, and industrial properties
- Learn how to identify materials that may contain asbestos and safely collect samples for testing
- Assist with asbestos surveys, recording information about rooms, samples, photographs, and building plans
- Develop laboratory skills, including preparing samples and using specialist microscopes to identify asbestos fibres
- Learn how air sampling equipment is used, including setting up pumps, checking airflow, and handling samples
- Gain supervised experience in air monitoring, fibre counting, and Four-Stage Clearance activities
- Accurately record survey findings, sample information, and analytical results using specialist software
- Carry out equipment checks, report faults, and follow safe working procedures
- Follow health and safety requirements, including the correct use of protective equipment and contamination-control procedures
- Work towards recognised industry qualifications

About You
You’re someone who prefers being out on site rather than behind a desk, and you enjoy practical, hands-on work. Early starts, travel, and changing locations don’t put you off. You’re adaptable, enjoy variety, and can adjust to different environments and situations.
You take safety seriously and understand the importance of following procedures properly. You’re reliable, focused, and have excellent attention to detail, particularly when carrying out checks, recording information, or following technical processes. You understand the importance of getting things right, working carefully, and never cutting corners, especially in environments where safety is a priority.
You’re practical by nature and learn best by doing. You’re comfortable using equipment, following instructions, and working in protective clothing when required. You’re also coachable, open to feedback, and willing to learn from experienced colleagues. You know when to stop, ask questions, and seek guidance, and you’re keen to build your confidence and technical skills over time.

- Be 18 or over
- Not be in full-time education
- Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
- Have the right to work in the UK
Apprenticeships are designed to provide new knowledge, skills, and behaviours, so applicants should not already hold a Level 3, degree, or higher qualification in a closely related subject, or have significant experience in the same field.

So how does the apprenticeship work?
Start your career as an asbestos site technician and gain hands-on experience supporting essential surveying, air monitoring, and inspection work in real-world environments.
As part of this Level 3 Asbestos Site Technician apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to carry out asbestos surveys, air monitoring, and clearance activities, applying recognised industry methods to produce accurate, compliant, and legally defensible results.
Over 12 months, you’ll combine day-to-day experience in your role with structured training delivered by expert tutors at Tiro. Our blended learning approach includes a mix of online sessions, in-person training, and hands-on support, alongside guidance from a dedicated mentor in the workplace.
You’ll spend at least 6 hours per week on off-the-job training, including virtual learning, practical activities, and applied assignments.
What your training will look like
You’ll follow a structured programme combining live sessions, online learning, and hands-on workplace training to build your skills step by step.
As part of your training, you’ll also work towards the RSPH Level 3 Award in Asbestos Air Monitoring and Clearance Procedures, a recognised qualification within the asbestos industry.
What could your future look like?
This apprenticeship will help you build the skills and experience needed to start your career as an asbestos site technician and progress within the asbestos management industry.
Through hands-on training, you’ll develop the competence and confidence to carry out asbestos surveys, air monitoring, and clearance testing in line with regulatory requirements. You’ll work in safety-critical environments, following strict compliance standards and contributing to protecting people, property, and the wider environment. This programme can also lead to professional recognition, such as becoming a Registered Science Technician (RSciTech).
You’ll gain experience that’s highly valued in a regulated and essential industry, opening up opportunities to grow and specialise within asbestos surveying, air monitoring, and related technical roles.
