ASD Specialist Teaching Assistant - Near London Colney
Location: Near London Colney, Hertfordshire
Salary: £95-£105 per day, depending on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9.00am-4.00pm
Working Pattern: Term Time Only
Contract: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent
About the Role
We are currently seeking an ASD Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school near Near London Colney, Hertfordshire. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to help pupils build confidence, develop independence and engage positively with their education.
The school works with children and young people across primary and secondary age groups. Pupils may have a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, communication difficulties, sensory processing needs, moderate learning difficulties and associated educational needs.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support to pupils where required
- Working with small groups to encourage participation and learning
- Helping pupils access classroom activities and personalised learning
- Supporting pupils with communication and social interaction
- Encouraging independence and helping pupils develop confidence
- Using calm and consistent approaches when managing behaviour
- Supporting children with emotional regulation and sensory needs
- Helping create a structured and positive classroom environment
- Developing positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Working alongside teachers and support staff to meet individual needs and EHCP objectives

What Are We Looking For?
- Patient, approachable and compassionate

- Interested in developing a career within specialist education
- Familiar with ASD, ADHD or communication needs, ideally through previous experience
- Able to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations
- A strong communicator who works well with others
- Positive and encouraging in your approach
- Committed to supporting pupils' wellbeing as well as their education
Previous SEN or ASD experience is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided for the right person.
An enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service is required for this position.
