Are you a highly organised planner with a passion for logistics, customer service, and operational excellence? Heidelberg Materials is looking for an Asphalt Planner to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring the efficient supply and delivery of asphalt products across our network.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the centre of a fast-paced operation, coordinating plant production, haulage, and customer requirements to deliver outstanding service while maximising efficiency and profitability.

What You'll Be Doing

As an Asphalt Planner, you'll be responsible for managing daily planning activities, ensuring customer requirements are met safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.

  • Monitor plant availability and record daily exceptions.
  • Manage unplanned plant downtime and update planning systems accordingly.
  • Minimise service disruption by identifying the most cost-effective supply solutions.
  • Coordinate with plant teams to agree current and future production schedules.
  • Produce pre-planned supply costs and support daily planning activities.
  • Create, review, and optimise asphalt mixing programmes.

Customer Service & Order Management

  • Accurately process customer enquiries, quotations, and orders.
  • Negotiate realistic delivery schedules while balancing operational capacity.
  • Manage order amendments and changes in real time.
  • Build strong relationships with customers by providing professional and responsive service.
  • Ensure orders are entered accurately within SAP and associated planning systems.
  • Support the external sales team by following up opportunities and promoting products.

Logistics & Delivery Coordination

  • Liaise with transport teams, plant personnel, and allocators to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Monitor delivery performance and proactively address issues.
  • Redirect vehicles and manage alternative supply arrangements during breakdowns.
  • Support efficient fleet utilisation and resource planning.
  • Work closely with haulage providers and operational teams to optimise distribution solutions.

Communication & Problem Solving

  • Respond professionally to customer, driver, and operational enquiries.
  • Escalate potential service issues before they impact customers.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders across sales, operations, and transport.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a proactive and customer-focused individual who thrives in a busy environment and enjoys balancing multiple priorities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong planning, scheduling, or logistics coordination experience.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and administrative accuracy.
  • Customer-focused approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Good standard of English and Mathematics.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office and standard business software packages.

Desirable

  • Experience within construction materials, aggregates, asphalt, ready-mix concrete, transport, logistics, or distribution operations.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or transport management systems.
  • Understanding of fleet planning and supply chain operations.
