We are looking for an Asphalt Plant Operator to join our team, playing a key role in the safe and efficient production of asphalt materials while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and operational performance.

The Role
You will play a key part in the operation, inspection, and maintenance of an asphalt plant, ensuring materials meet company quality specifications while maintaining the highest safety standards.
Key duties include
- Operating, inspecting, and maintaining the asphalt plant
- Carrying out start-up and shut-down routines and maximising plant throughput
- Weighbridge operations, including weighing vehicles in and out and loading asphalt
- Communicating production changes to the order office via Microsoft Teams
- Monitoring plant performance in line with site inspection regimes
- Completing routine maintenance and minor repairs within your scope of competence
- Accurately recording inspections, defects, and maintenance activities
- Refuelling static and mobile plant
- Operating mobile plant such as FELs and dumpers, as required (training provided)
- Working safely and efficiently at all times
- Undertaking duties at other local Heidelberg Materials sites where required (travel allowances provided where applicable)

Key Accountabilities
- You will learn how to be safe and efficient operation of static and mobile plant
- Learn how to complete daily inspections using Checkproof
- Reporting defects and issues to the Production Supervisor or Manager
- Maintaining mobile plant through cleaning, greasing, and refuelling
- Completing near-miss reports as required
- Operating plant and machinery in an energy-efficient manner
- Demonstrating good timekeeping and reliability
- Ensure all machinery remains in a safe and serviceable condition.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Follow all company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Complete near-miss reporting and proactively identify potential hazards.
- Promote safe working practices across the site.
- Operate plant and machinery in an energy-efficient manner.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of site safety performance.
Team & Site Support
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the site.
- Demonstrate excellent timekeeping and reliability.
- Attend training and development programmes as required.
- Support operations at other local sites when needed within a reasonable travelling distance.
Essential Requirements
What We're Looking For

- Willingness to learn and operate an asphalt plant (full training provided)
- Ability to carry out weighbridge duties (full training provided)
- Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Understanding of, or willingness to comply with, Quarry Regulations 1999
- Confident with basic IT systems; computer literacy essential
- Working knowledge of Excel is desirable but not essential
Desirable Qualifications & Experience (Training Provided)
- EPIC certification for mobile plant operation.
- NVQ Level 2 in Mobile Plant Operations.
- Experience operating Front-End Loaders (FEL), dumpers, or similar equipment.
- Previous asphalt, aggregates, quarrying, or heavy industrial experience.
- Understanding of Quarry Regulations and site safety requirements.
Working Pattern
- Monday to Friday
- Rotating shifts:
- 3 weeks Days: 06:00 – 15:30
- 3 weeks Nights: 17:30 – 02:30 (following successful completion of training and competency sign-off)
- Overtime available
- Alternate Saturdays required
Pay & Benefits
Hourly Rates
- Basic Rate: £14.09 per hour
- Saturday Overtime: £16.20 per hour (1.15x basic rate)
- Sunday Overtime: £23.95 per hour (1.7x basic rate)
- Night Shift Premium: £23.95 per hour (1.7x basic rate)
