Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

The Line Assembler is responsible for assembling or sub-assembling commercial refrigeration products and components for manufacturing operation. This position follows standardized work instructions, engineering drawings, and quality standards to ensure products are assembled accurately, safely, and efficiently. The Line Assembler uses hand and power tools, installs components and hardware, verifies product quality, and supports production goals while maintaining a clean and organized work area. Teamwork, attention to detail, and adherence to safety procedures are essential to producing high-quality products that meet Hussmann's manufacturing standards.

Qualifications And Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Candidates must successfully complete all pre-employment screening requirements, including a background check, physical assessment, and lift test, to ensure the ability to safely perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Previous manufacturing, production, or assembly experience preferred but not required.
  • Basic math skills for measuring, counting, and verifying materials.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing safety practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment while meeting quality and productivity standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality workmanship.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to learn new processes and cross-train in multiple assembly operations.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to learn and operate a pallet jack/walkie stacker.
  • Must join a union.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the work shift.
  • Frequently lift, push, and pull material and parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform varied hand, wrist, and arm movements while assembling products.
  • Occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, and reach above shoulder level.
  • Ability to climb ladders or use step platforms as needed.

Work environment

  • Manufacturing/production floor setting
  • Maintain 5S in work area.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing and production floor environment with exposure to hot and cold temperatures, noise, dust, vibration, and moving machinery.
  • Maintain regular attendance and work overtime or flexible schedules as needed to meet production demands.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, continuous improvement, and lean manufacturing principles.

Safety Responsibilities And Requirements

  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, cut resistance gloves and sleeves, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear, as required.
  • Perform Stretch and Flex exercises at the beginning of the workday as part of the company’s safety program.
  • Responsible for following all established procedures for safe handling, storage, use, labeling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous waste, in accordance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
