Working closely with engineering and maintenance teams, you will help shape renewal, refurbishment, and enhancement programmes, ensuring assets remain safe, reliable, and fit for future operational requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with experience in Electrification & Plant (E&P), asset management, fixed plant systems, or overhead line/contact systems who enjoys combining technical engineering expertise with strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.

- Support the development and implementation of E&P asset strategies and investment plans.
- Contribute to the creation and management of the route's renewal, refurbishment, and enhancement workbank.
- Develop technical requirements, specifications, and acceptance criteria for E&P engineering projects.

- Assess asset condition and provide recommendations for future investment and intervention.
- Develop and maintain asset management plans and business cases.
- Engage with maintenance teams and stakeholders to gather technical information and inform planning decisions.
- Produce reports and presentations supporting business plan development and investment priorities.
- Identify emerging asset risks and advise on the operational impact of delayed or deferred works.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
