About The Role

At National Grid Interconnectors, we're playing a vital role in delivering the UK's net zero future. Through our growing portfolio of HVDC interconnectors, we connect the UK's energy system with neighbouring countries, enabling the efficient import and export of electricity and helping to deliver secure, affordable, and cleaner energy for millions of people.

As we continue to expand our interconnector network and develop innovative energy infrastructure projects, we're looking for a Converters Asset Engineering Manager to join our Operations team and help us maintain world-class performance across our critical assets.

Reporting into the UJV Operations team, you'll provide strategic and technical leadership for the asset management of our HVDC converter station infrastructure across a portfolio that includes NSL, IFA1, IFA2, and Viking Link.

Leading a team of specialist engineers, you'll shape asset strategies, drive operational excellence, and ensure our converter station assets continue to perform safely, reliably, and efficiently. This is a highly influential role where you'll work across a wide range of stakeholders, helping to inform investment decisions, support major projects, and deliver innovation across our operational interconnector network.

The role is hybrid with our base office in Warwick, with travel to interconnector sites as required.

The role also comes with a company car.

What you'll do

  • Lead the asset management strategy for HVDC converter station asset families, including wound plant, switchgear, protection, and control systems.
  • Develop and implement robust asset management frameworks, policies, standards, and technical guidance.
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise to operational teams and wider business stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation opportunities across the converter station asset base.
  • Oversee asset performance monitoring, analysis, and reporting to support informed decision making.
  • Support the development, scoping, and delivery of complex asset replacement, refurbishment, and enhancement projects.
  • Contribute to asset investment planning and financial forecasting activities.
  • Lead investigations into asset failures and operational incidents, identifying lessons learned and improvement opportunities.
  • Support the management and optimisation of strategic spares across the operational interconnector portfolio.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, creating a culture focused on safety, performance, and professional development.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
