National Grid is recruiting for an Asset Integrity Manager - Wound Plant and Cables - Flexible/Hybrid working – opportunity to be based from offices or sites across England and Wales, travel to our Warwick office and other sites will be expected

Job Purpose

We're looking for an experienced engineering leader to join our Asset Integrity team, providing technical leadership and strategic direction for some of the most critical assets across the transmission network.

As Asset Integrity Manager for Wound Plant & Cables, you'll lead a specialist team responsible for supporting the performance, reliability and safe operation of primary plant technologies, including transformers, reactive plant, instrument transformers, bushings, metering systems, HVDC assets and associated auxiliary equipment.

You'll play a key role in monitoring asset condition and performance, providing expert technical guidance on ongoing asset operation, and ensuring risks are effectively identified and managed. Through technical investigations, asset analysis and industry engagement, you'll drive improvements in asset management strategies that support network resilience, reliability and long-term value.

What You'll Do

As Asset Integrity Manager, you'll lead a team of technical specialists and act as a key subject matter expert across the business, supporting operational decision-making and influencing future asset strategies.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Leading the delivery of first and second-line technical support and engineering guidance for wound plant and cable assets across the transmission network.
  • Providing specialist risk management advice to Operations teams to support safe, reliable and efficient asset operation.
  • Influencing and contributing to National Grid's policies, specifications, maintenance strategies and replacement programmes, ensuring the right balance between cost, risk and performance.
  • Driving continuous improvement in asset management practices through condition assessment, asset performance analysis and forensic examination of failed or decommissioned equipment.
  • Leading technical investigations, producing evidence-based recommendations and ensuring robust close-out of actions and learning points.
  • Representing National Grid externally with suppliers, manufacturers and industry bodies on technical issues relating to asset maintenance, performance and engineering support.
  • Leading the development of Operational Engineering Safety Briefings (OESBs), managing technical risks and supporting the resolution of design defects.
  • Working closely with Engineering and Operations teams to provide reporting, insights and recommendations on equipment condition, performance and future intervention requirements.
  • Supporting commercial activities and maintenance contracts through technical review of tender submissions and engineering proposals.
  • Managing the primary equipment forensic investigation budget and ensuring effective use of resources.
  • Overseeing the management of thermal rating defects and supporting mitigation activities where required.
  • Leading Plant Protection activities on behalf of the business, ensuring asset risks are identified and appropriately managed.
  • Developing, coaching and leading a high-performing specialist engineering team while fostering a culture of safety, innovation and continuous improvement.

About You

You'll be an accomplished engineering professional with extensive experience in transmission assets, asset management and technical leadership. You'll have the credibility to influence stakeholders at all levels and the leadership capability to drive both operational excellence and continuous improvement.

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

  • A minimum HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline, ideally Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Significant experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams within a complex operational environment.
  • Broad knowledge of transmission asset design, operation and application.
  • Specialist expertise in primary plant technologies such as transformers, reactive plant, instrument transformers, metering systems, bushings, HVDC assets and associated equipment.
  • Strong understanding of asset risk management principles and their application within a safety-critical environment.
  • Experience in transmission asset maintenance, refurbishment and replacement policy implementation.
  • Operational experience with the ability to provide sound technical advice within demanding operational timescales.
  • Strong project management capabilities with experience delivering complex, multi-stakeholder engineering initiatives.
  • Proven leadership, people management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience leading transformation, change and continuous improvement programmes.
  • A sound understanding of operational policies, procedures and engineering governance requirements.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including responsibility for budget management and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders.

What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £60,000 – £75,000 – dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 30% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
