SP Electricity North West

SP Electricity North West manages and invests in the power network that supplies electricity to the 2.4m homes and businesses across the North West. Our 2,400 colleagues manage the 13,000km of overhead lines, 44,000km of underground cables and thousands of electricity substations to keep power flowing and supporting green growth. We’re one of six distribution network operators in the UK and are regulated by Ofgem.

We’re proud that in December 2024 we were named Utility of the Year by Utility Week magazine who said we punched above our weight and used innovation to solve some of the industry’s most difficult challenges. Come and be part of our team and make a difference.

Now part of the Iberdrola and ScottishPower group, we’re collectively building smarter, greener electricity networks that will get Britain growing by investing in a better future, quicker.

A Fantastic Opportunity: Asset & Investment Manager - Circuits

As an Asset & Investment Manager, you will play a key role in developing and delivering investment plans for SP Electricity North West's circuit assets, including overhead lines and underground cables. You will help ensure that investment programmes align with regulatory, statutory and business requirements, while supporting the delivery of safe, reliable and cost-effective network performance. These investment programmes represent annual expenditure of approximately £150m-£200m.

Working within the Asset Management team in the Asset Management & Investment Directorate, you will contribute to the long-term strategic direction of the network asset base. The role involves analysing asset performance and risk, identifying opportunities to improve outcomes for customers and stakeholders, supporting evidence-based decision making, and helping the business optimise investment priorities. You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure investment plans deliver value, manage emerging risks and support the organisation's strategic objectives.

What you'll be doing:

As an Asset & Investment Manager, you will:

  • Support and promote a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture, helping to ensure safe outcomes for colleagues, contractors, customers and communities.
  • Deliver excellent service and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a rolling network investment plan for circuit assets, ensuring compliance with regulatory, statutory and business requirements.
  • Use asset performance, risk and cost-benefit analysis to inform investment priorities and support value-driven decision-making.
  • Lead the development of asset replacement and network investment strategies, taking account of asset condition, resilience, performance, risk and future network requirements.
  • Contribute to regulatory submissions, reporting and business planning activities, including the preparation of technical and investment justification documentation where required.
  • Work collaboratively with operational teams and specialist partners to identify and deliver effective, innovative investment solutions.
  • Develop and maintain asset management policies, strategies and plans in line with industry standards and organisational objectives.
  • Monitor external developments, including industry, regulatory and legislative changes, and help assess their impact on the business.
  • Build productive relationships with regulators, industry bodies, suppliers, local authorities and other key stakeholders to support successful programme delivery and share best practice.
  • Represent the organisation in relevant industry forums, working groups and collaborative initiatives as required.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and support to colleagues, fostering an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Contribute positively to change initiatives by encouraging engagement, continuous improvement and effective communication.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
