National Grid is recruiting for an Asset Lifecycle Engineer - HV Wound Plant. - Flexible/Hybrid working – opportunity to be based from offices or sites across England and Wales, travel to our Warwick office and other sites will be expected

Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in managing critical transmission assets, including Super Grid Transformers (SGTs), Reactors and associated high-voltage wound plant equipment operating between 33kV and 400kV. You'll help shape the future of our network by developing asset strategies, influencing standards and supporting the delivery of the Great Grid Upgrade.


What you'll do

As an Asset Lifecycle Engineer within our Substation HV Plant team, you'll be responsible for supporting the asset management of high-voltage wound plant and associated equipment across its full lifecycle. You'll:

  • Provide specialist technical and asset management expertise relating to HV wound plant assets.
  • Support asset lifecycle activities, from specification and design through to maintenance and replacement strategies.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, technical specifications, standards and technical guidance.
  • Support the development of technical strategies and intervention plans across our HV plant portfolio.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Undertake Type Registration activities in line with relevant processes and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders across the energy industry.
  • Represent National Grid on appropriate national and international committees, helping to influence policy, standards and specifications.
  • Support the development of apprentices, graduates and colleagues within the wider team.

About you

We're looking for a self-starter who is keen to develop both their technical and business skills and has experience working with transmission oil-filled EHV wound plant and associated equipment.

You'll also have:

  • A numerate degree or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Membership, or the ability to become a member, of a relevant professional institution.
  • Technical understanding of Substation HV Wound Plant.
  • Knowledge of asset management principles and their practical application.
  • Experience of one or more of the following:
    • Technical specification development and maintenance.
    • Technical design reviews.
    • Asset strategy development.
    • Technical policy creation.
    • Maintenance strategy development.
    • Asset lifetime management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to a range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work to challenging deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Institute of Asset Management (IAM) Principles of Asset Management Certificate.

  • Starting salary of up to £68,447 per annum, plus a £3,000 Market Supplement (dependent on experience).
