The Role:

Manages and oversees the safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance of nuclear facilities and equipment. They bridge the gap between engineering maintenance and strict regulatory frameworks, ensuring all tasks align with site safety cases, license conditions, and environmental standards. Accountable for the performance and results of their team. Adapts plans and priorities to set direction for their team. Makes decisions and problem solves guided by policies, procedures, and plans for their area. Operates within defined functional standards and policies to address resource and operational challenges. Leads others through a good knowledge of functional processes. Operates autonomously receiving guidance from management when the impact is broader, outside their team or the subject is more complex. Ensures that all equipment, fixturing, tooling and services needed to support the Manufacturing process are available when required to the requisite standard. Provides leadership and coaching for maintenance teams within the facility.

What you will be doing:

  • Ensure all preventive and corrective maintenance activities are executed in strict accordance with the facility’s nuclear safety cases
  • Lead and mentor a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP) maintenance team.
  • Mitigate radiological and industrial hazards during maintenance outages and routine operations.
  • Support audits and coordinate with regulatory bodies, ensuring that all plant modifications adhere to national nuclear legislation.
  • Plan and oversee maintenance schedules to minimise equipment downtime while preventing breaches of operating limits.
  • Accountable for team compliance with environmental and waste management requirements in accordance with local operating instructions, Nuclear License, and relevant aspects of Environmental Permits.
  • Will input into the development of, and will take ownership of their budget, applying business acumen to achieve financial objectives.

  • Conceptual and practical knowledge of manufacturing services
  • Experience in functional support groups
  • Proven track record delivering business results
  • Demonstrated leadership whilst embracing behaviours that inspire team working and simplicity
  • Takes responsibility for their own development with particular focus on their leadership skills, has attended leadership development programmes
  • Has led transformation projects and is familiar with continuous improvement methodologies such as six sigma and lean (Green and/or Black belt desirable but not mandatory)
  • Delivered manufacturing facility wide projects

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.

As part of our selection process, candidates in certain locations may be asked to complete an online assessment, which can include cognitive and behavioural aptitude testing relevant to the role. If required, full instructions for the next steps will be provided.
