BESS Asset Manager

Confidential – energy infrastructure sector

Location: London

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £70,000 – £85,000 per year

Our client is a fast-growing developer, owner, and operator of battery energy storage and flexible generation assets, with a diverse and expanding pipeline of utility-scale projects across the UK and Europe. Backed by significant investment and with big ambitions for growth, they've built a lean, entrepreneurial team that moves with genuine start-up energy while delivering grid-scale infrastructure at serious scale.

The role

The BESS Asset Manager will take ownership of operational performance across a growing portfolio of battery storage assets, acting as the key link between the business, its O&M contractors, and route-to-market partners to maximise revenue and asset value.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day commercial and technical performance of a portfolio of operational BESS assets.
  • Oversee O&M contractors and route-to-market/optimisation partners, holding them to performance targets.
  • Track asset availability, degradation, and revenue performance, reporting against budget and forecast.
  • Manage warranty, insurance, and compliance obligations across the portfolio.
  • Support the transition of new assets from construction into operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve asset performance, contract terms, or revenue strategy.

  • Degree in Engineering, Energy, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in asset management within battery storage, renewables, or flexible generation.
  • Strong commercial understanding of energy markets, route-to-market structures, and revenue optimisation.
  • Confident managing O&M contractors and third-party service providers.
  • Proficiency with asset performance/monitoring platforms and Microsoft Office/Power BI.

Desirable

  • Experience with GB balancing/ancillary services markets or equivalent European markets.
  • Knowledge of grid codes, connection agreements, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Familiarity with SCADA/asset monitoring systems for battery storage.
