Base Location: Flexible Scotland

We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland, Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness

Salary: £57,150 - £68,295 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

The role

SSEN Transmission has a great opportunity for an Asset Risk & Investment Engineer to join our Asset Management team. This is a specialist role focused on analysing asset condition and risk data, maintaining high-quality asset datasets and providing the insights that underpin investment planning and regulatory reporting.

Working with engineers, asset specialists and data professionals, you'll help ensure that our asset information, risk models and reporting outputs are robust, transparent and fit for purpose. Your analysis will directly influence how we understand risk across the transmission network and support the development of future investment plans.

You will

  • Review asset condition, performance and network data to assess asset health and quantify risk across the transmission network.
  • Develop and maintain asset risk datasets, ensuring the integrity, consistency and traceability of data used for investment planning and regulatory reporting.
  • Use Excel, Power BI, Invest, Maximo and ArcGIS to transform complex data into meaningful insights, dashboards and recommendations.
  • Support the development and application of risk methodologies, including Network Asset Risk Metric (NARM) assessments and other asset risk models.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, asset managers and regulatory bodies, to support investment planning, regulatory reporting and evidence-based asset choices.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
