Job Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Treasury Team as an Assistant Accountant, based at Central Support in Hull. This role would suit someone who is organised, accurate and confident working with financial information and who enjoys supporting branches and internal teams to keep daily banking and payment processes running smoothly.

Main Purpose

To support the Treasury Team in ensuring all payments into and out of the business are processed accurately, efficiently and on time. The role will help maintain strong financial controls, support branch cash and banking processes, and provide a high-quality service to branches and internal departments.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reconcile daily branch cash till deposits to the bank, investigating and resolving any variances promptly.
  • Analyse cash till data to identify trends, errors and opportunities to improve cashing-up standards.
  • Work with branches to ensure cashing-up standards and bank deposit frequency requirements are maintained.
  • Upload Credit Account receipts, including BACS, Faster Payments and website receipts, to the Sales Ledger on a daily basis.
  • Use online banking portals to process payments, review transactions and support daily banking activity.
  • Process customer refunds accurately and in line with internal approval procedures.
  • Process non-stock payments debiting the bank
  • Review and process petty cash claims
  • Analyse and review expense claims and company card spend, ensuring queries are followed up where required.
  • Respond to queries from branches and central departments in a professional, helpful and efficient manner.
  • Support the wider Treasury Team with ad hoc tasks, process improvements and reporting requirements as needed.

  • Experience of working accurately in a busy finance or accounts environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a fast-moving workload effectively.
  • Confident numerical ability and good working knowledge of Excel.
  • Clear communication skills, with a helpful and professional approach to supporting branches and internal departments.
  • Ability to work to deadlines while maintaining accuracy and control.
  • Studying towards, or interested in working towards, an accounting qualification would be beneficial.
