Assistant Accountant (9 month FTC)

We’re looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team in Brighton on a 9 month FTC.
This is a hands-on role at the heart of MPB’s day-to-day financial operations. Reporting to the Senior Reporting Accountant, you’ll support accurate, timely and robust financial reporting for one of MPB’s operations, while playing a key part in maintaining strong financial controls and a smooth month-end close.
What you’ll be doing
As Assistant Accountant, you’ll own a set of core daily and month-end finance processes, working closely with the Senior Reporting Accountant and the wider Finance team.
You’ll also:
- Own the daily sales and purchases reconciliations to cash received and paid, raising transaction issues where necessary and tracking them through to resolution
- Own bank reconciliations within Ledge, our financial close management tool
- Ensure accurate recording of the daily stock position
- Run daily batch and manual payments to customers
- Complete month-end tasks such as expense analysis and balance sheet reconciliations
- Post prepayments and accruals
- Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting
- Support the Senior Reporting Accountant with ad hoc tasks and requests from the business
- Support Customer Experience with payment queries from customers
- Adopt and effectively use approved AI tools to support day-to-day finance activities, improve productivity and contribute to continuous process improvements

What we’re looking for
You’re an ambitious, hands-on finance professional who enjoys getting into the detail and spotting opportunities to make things better. You’re a team player who can manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with a naturally curious approach to new tools and technology.
You’ll bring:
- Demonstrable experience in an Assistant Accountant or Finance Assistant role
- AAT Level 3 or higher, or qualified through experience
- Good IT skills, including advanced level use of Excel
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- A willingness to learn and adopt approved AI tools to improve productivity, enhance quality of work and contribute to continuous improvement
It would also be great if you have:
- NetSuite experience
