Assistant Accountant - Temporary
Chalk Hill Group are supporting a growing and well-established organisation in Winchester with the appointment of an Assistant Accountant on a temporary basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional to join the team at an interesting time, initially providing support across the day-to-day finance and billing administration functions, with the potential to become increasingly involved in project accounting as the business continues the implementation of a new system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of projects from a financial perspective.
- Monitor project budgets, fees, WIP and profitability.
- Prepare project financial analysis, monthly commentary and WIP reporting.
- Produce fee projections and support the monthly billing process.
- Raise, review and issue invoices, including resolving billing discrepancies and producing credit notes where required.
- Liaise with Project Managers and Job Runners regarding aged WIP, billing and project performance.
- Maintain accurate project and financial data within the project management system.
- Monitor timesheet compliance and ensure accurate time is captured for billing.
- Review fee agreements, contracts and billing requirements for new projects.
- Produce project and fee-related management reports.
- Support continuous improvement of finance and billing processes.
- Provide guidance to project teams on financial management and the relationship between timesheets, billing and income.

About You:
We're looking for someone with at least 2 years' experience in a similar billing, project accounting or finance role, ideally within professional services.
You'll ideally have:
- Strong billing and project accounting experience.
- Good understanding of WIP and project financial reporting.
- Excellent Excel skills and experience using finance/project management systems.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with non-finance stakeholders.
- A proactive, organised and flexible approach.
- Good understanding of VAT and tax matters.
