We are currently recruiting for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join our client’s Automotive Business at their head office in Ferndown, Dorset.
Our client is a growing, family-run business specialising in commercial and leisure vehicle hire and has recently expanded into the motorhome and caravan sales market.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounts professional looking to take the next step in their career, working closely with senior finance professionals within a successful and expanding business.
The Role
As Assistant Accountant, you will work directly with the Financial Controller and Commercial Finance Manager, providing support across a broad range of accounting and finance activities.
The position is based at the company’s head office in Ferndown, with occasional visits to its other Hampshire and Dorset sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and reporting packs.
- Support year-end accounts preparation and the annual audit process.
- Complete bank and daybook reconciliations.
- Reconcile customer and supplier accounts.
- Process supplier invoice payments and staff wages.
- Manage company-wide utility accounts, rates, and invoices.
- Investigate and resolve account discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Provide general accounting and finance support to the Financial Controller and Commercial Finance Manager.
- Occasionally undertake banking duties, including depositing cheques and cash.

About You
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar accounts or finance role.
- Ideally AAT Level 3 or 4 qualified, or part-qualified ACCA.
- Previous experience using Sage 50 Accounts.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong reconciliation and general accounting experience.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- A proactive approach with the ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
- Knowledge of VBA coding would be advantageous but is not essential.
- A full, clean UK driving licence.
- Willingness to work on-site at the Ferndown head office.
