Role overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Financial Control Team. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain broad exposure to legal finance operations, supporting the firm's financial control, reporting, and transactional processes.
Working closely with Finance Managers, the Financial Controller, extended finance team, and other Business Services teams, you will assist with day-to-day accounting activities, reconciliations, financial analysis, and month-end processes, helping to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the firm's financial records. You will play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the finance function while contributing to the firm's operational efficiency.
This position offers valuable hands-on experience in a professional services environment and provides a strong foundation for career development within legal finance and financial control.

The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.
Payment Processing & Transaction Management
- Assist with payment processing across banking platforms and help ensure compliance with internal controls, approval procedures, and SRA rules.
- Process payment and receipt postings, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.

- Support month-end processes, including the preparation of bank reconciliations and journals.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items under the guidance of the Supervisors.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in accordance with company policies and audit requirements.
- Ad hoc data analysis (For departments and reconciliations).
Audit, Accounts & Financial Planning
- Assist with the preparation of year-end accounts, audit schedules, and information requests from external auditors.
- Work closely with the Accounts Payable team to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities through data collection and reporting support.
Projects & Team Support
- Participate in finance projects, system enhancements, process improvement initiatives, and testing activities.
- Provide day-to-day support to the Finance Managers, Financial Controller, and wider finance team as required.
Candidate profile
Candidates for this position must have:
- Recent graduate with a degree in Finance, Business, Law, or a related field.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to build effective working relationships with both legal and non-legal colleagues.
- Proactive and organised, able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Comfortable using AI-enabled tools to support day-to-day work, with the ability to apply sound judgement and critical thinking when interpreting outputs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Adaptable in approach, able to shift focus quickly as priorities evolve.
- Eager to learn and develop within a fast-paced professional services environment.
- Demonstrates integrity, discretion, and a strong commitment to client service.
- A natural problem spotter who enjoys anticipating needs before they arise.
- Confident working with data to identify trends, risks, or opportunities.
