About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our finance team in a permanent, full-time position based in the UK and reporting to the Financial Controller. Supporting Sea’s operations across the UK, Sweden, Singapore, and Poland, the team also validates reporting from several other Clarksons locations. This provides a unique opportunity to gain broad experience within an international finance function spanning multiple jurisdictions.

Responsibilities
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly accounts for group reporting.
- Preparing and posting journals, e.g. prepayments, accruals, intercompany recharges and month-end journals.
- Investigating material cost variances.
- Preparing intercompany reconciliations.
- Preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assisting with the weekly and monthly financial reports.
- Assisting with the preparation of year-end financial statements.
- Supporting UK tax compliance.
- Processing purchase invoices and ensuring accurate coding on a day-to-day basis.
- Processing and checking employee expense claims.
- Assisting with treasury processing and preparing bank reconciliations.
- Monitoring and developing internal controls and systems.
- Checking and validating financial information received from Clarksons finance teams in other locations.
- Working closely with finance colleagues in Poland, Sweden and Singapore, including covering transactional work during absences.
- Supporting internal and external audits, including preparing audit schedules and liaising with auditors.
- Supporting process improvement, automation and systems projects, including the use of AI tools to improve efficiency.
- Fulfilling any additional or ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications
Studying towards, or keen to start, an AAT, ACCA or CIMA qualification would be an advantage.
Required Skills
- Numerate. Knowledge of accounting principles (e.g. double-entry bookkeeping, prepayments, accruals)
- Applicants must be self-confident, with good communication and problem-solving skills, and experience of working in a team environment, ideally within a larger or international organisation.
- Organised and able to prioritise own workload to meet tight deadlines.
- Intermediate Excel skills are essential (for example lookups and pivot tables).
- Comfortable working with colleagues across different countries and time zones.
- Interest in using technology and AI tools to improve finance processes.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of Workday would be an advantage but not essential.
