£15.00 - £18.00 per hour | Temporary, Full-Time, On-site | Outskirts of Exeter

Cathedral Appointments is recruiting on behalf of a business based on the outskirts of Exeter for a temporary Assistant Accountant to join their finance team on a full-time basis. This is a varied, hands-on role covering everything from credit control and sales ledger through to supporting the monthly management accounts pack.

The Role

As Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the finance function, managing customer queries and credit control, preparing invoices, and supporting month-end and reporting processes. This role would suit an AAT qualified finance professional who is quick to pick up new systems, well organised, and comfortable working to deadlines.

Responsibilities for the Assistant Accountant:

  • Answer customer queries via email and telephone
  • Manage the full credit control process, from reconciling accounts to professionally handling customer interactions
  • Prepare sales and intercompany invoices, ensuring all transactions are processed smoothly
  • Support delivery of the monthly management accounts pack
  • Conduct and present weekly reconciliations and reporting on sales progress
  • Assist with payment runs, month-end procedures and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare quarterly VAT returns and assist with year-end statutory reporting and audit

Requirements for the Assistant Accountant include:

  • AAT qualified
  • Experience working with a sales ledger
  • Experience in credit control
  • Quick to learn new IT systems
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Motivated, flexible, and able to work under pressure to meet critical deadlines
