Assistant Accountant – Senior Finance Professional
Location: Driffield, East Riding, YO25
Salary: £37,000 – £40,000 per annum
Commutable from: Bridlington, Beverley, Market Weighton, Pocklington, Goole, Cottingham, East Riding, Driffield
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8.30am – 5.00pm; Friday, 8.30am – 2.00pm
Working Pattern: Full-time, with hybrid working potentially available for the right person
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Senior Finance Assistant or Assistant Accountant to join a small, supportive finance team of three.
Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will take responsibility for a range of core finance processes while supporting monthly management accounts, financial reporting, budgeting and year-end activities.
This role would suit an experienced Finance Assistant or Assistant Accountant who is ready to take greater ownership of financial processes and develop their career further.
The role offers excellent scope for professional development, with the opportunity for the successful candidate to progress into the management team in the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Prepare journals, accruals and prepayments
- Complete bank, balance-sheet and control-account reconciliations
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies and outstanding items
- Maintain accurate purchase and sales ledger records
- Prepare supplier payment runs and support credit-control activities
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow reporting
- Produce regular financial reports and analysis
- Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Assist with year-end accounts and respond to audit queries
- Work with budget holders to investigate variances and resolve finance queries
- Ensure finance policies, procedures and internal controls are followed
- Support and provide guidance to junior finance colleagues
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting
- Provide additional support to the Finance Manager and wider business as required

About You
You should have:
- Experience in a Finance Assistant, Assistant Accountant or similar role
- Experience supporting the preparation of management accounts
- Good knowledge of journals, accruals, prepayments and balance-sheet reconciliations
- Experience with purchase ledger, sales ledger and bank reconciliations
- Strong Excel skills and confidence using Sage Line 50 accounting software
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
- The ability to organise your workload and meet reporting deadlines
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with non-finance colleagues
- A proactive approach to resolving problems and improving processes
What’s on Offer
- £37,000 – £40,000 salary, depending on experience
- Monday to Thursday, 8.30am – 5.00pm
- Early finish every Friday at 2.00pm
