Assistant Accountant
Location: Leicestershire (On-site)
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000
We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established and successful distribution business in Leicestershire. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Accountant who is looking to broaden their accounting experience and take on new challenges within a fast-paced commercial environment.
A particularly unique aspect of this opportunity is the chance to work within a finance function led by an exceptionally accomplished Finance Director. While this isn't a formal mentoring role, you'll gain invaluable exposure to their approach, commercial thinking and leadership, creating an outstanding learning environment for someone looking to accelerate their finance career.
The Role
Reporting into the finance team, the Assistant Accountant will play a key role in supporting month-end activities and maintaining accurate financial records. This position offers broad exposure across the finance function and would suit someone who enjoys problem-solving, taking ownership and developing their commercial and technical accounting skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Posting depreciation journals
- Processing accruals and prepayments
- Posting inventory valuation journals
- Cash applications and cash allocation activities
- Basic bookkeeping duties
- Managing GNRI (Goods Not Received Invoice) accruals
- Assisting with cost of goods sold calculations and postings
- Running and reviewing trial balances
- Performing balance sheet reconciliations
- Sense-checking financial data and investigating discrepancies
- Supporting month-end and year-end accounting processes
- Assisting with ad hoc financial reporting and analysis

Essential Experience & Skills
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant or similar finance role
- Experience posting journals, including depreciation, accruals and prepayments
- Understanding of inventory accounting and stock valuations
- Experience with balance sheet reconciliations and trial balances
- Knowledge of GNRI accruals and cost of goods sold accounting
- Strong bookkeeping and transactional finance knowledge
- Strong Excel skills, including confidence working with formulas and working with data
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
