Assistant Accountant
Looking for a detail-oriented role in Glasgow? As an Assistant Accountant in the financial services industry, you'll handle daily accounting tasks to support smooth financial operations while contributing to the team's success.
Client Details
A financial services organisation based in Glasgow.
Description
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal postings, accruals and prepayments.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies.
- Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts and external audit requirements.
- Support cash flow forecasting and treasury management activities.
- Analyse financial data and provide commentary on variances against budget and forecast.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes across the business.
- Ensure financial records are maintained accurately and in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Liaise with operational and non-finance stakeholders to gather information and support financial decision-making.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial controls, processes and reporting.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting requests from senior management.
- Provide support and guidance to transactional finance teams where required.
- Contribute to internal control processes and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and procedures.

Profile
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Studying towards, or looking to commence, a professional accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ICAS) or qualified by experience.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Excel, Sage Intacct would be advantageous.
- An organised approach to managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Previous experience within an accounting or finance function.
- Good understanding of accounting principles and month-end processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical abilities.
- Positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across the business.
