About The Role
Are you a detail-oriented finance professional looking to build your career in accounting and treasury? If so, we want to hear from you. Haven is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our External Reporting & Treasury team at our Hemel Hempstead head office.
In this role you will support the day-to-day financial operations of the business, taking responsibility for payment processing, bank reconciliations, journal postings and treasury administration, as well as assisting with month-end accounting activities.
Working closely with colleagues across Finance and the wider business, you will help ensure payments are processed accurately and on time, financial records are maintained to a high standard and robust financial controls are followed. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop a career in accounting and treasury within a large, complex organisation, with exposure to statutory accounts, external reporting and wider financial accounting activities.
Your Opportunity
- Prepare and process weekly supplier and employee expense payment runs
- Upload and manage payment files through PTX (Bottomline) and ERPX
- Process owner refunds, payroll files, tariff refunds and other BACS payments
- Review payment requests to ensure appropriate approvals and supporting documentation are in place
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations across multiple bank accounts and investigate unreconciled transactions
- Support cash reporting and treasury administration
- Prepare and post journals accurately and in a timely manner
- Support month-end and year-end close activities and assist with intercompany accounting
- Support statutory audit requests and provide documentation
- Maintain strong financial controls and identify opportunities for process improvements
- Support colleagues across Finance with payment and banking queries

What we'd like you to bring
- Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles
- Experience of bank reconciliations and journal postings
- Experience processing payments and maintaining financial records
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Experience using finance systems (ERP experience desirable)
- AAT qualified or studying AAT, ACCA or CIMA (or equivalent experience)
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business (desirable)
