Your new company
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join one of Norwich's leading organisations. Working within a highly respected finance team, you will play a key role in ensuring research grants are accurately monitored, reported and invoiced in accordance.
Your new role
If you've worked in a finance team carrying out reconciliations, processing invoices, assisting with month-end reporting, maintaining accurate financial records and supporting audits, then you may already possess many of the core skills required for a Grants Accounting role. The key difference is that, instead of reporting on commercial business activity, you will be helping manage externally funded research grants and ensuring funding bodies receive accurate financial reporting.
This role will be full time, but we will also consider part-time candidates looking to work 30 hours a week.
As Assistant Grants Accountant, you will be responsible for supporting the financial management of externally funded research projects and grants with key tasks such as:
- Monitoring grant expenditure against approved budgets
- Preparing financial reports for funding organisations
- Raising invoices and requesting grant funding
- Reconciling grant income and expenditure
- Supporting the preparation of audit documentation
- Assisting with external grant audits
- Liaising with researchers, project managers and funding bodies
- Maintaining accurate financial records
- Ensuring compliance with sponsor and funder requirements
- Supporting month-end and year-end financial activities

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
