We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Accountant to join our Shared Services Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their accounting and finance career within a supportive and dynamic environment.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting financial accounting, reporting, and compliance activities while partnering with colleagues across Finance and the wider business. This role offers exposure to a broad range of finance processes and provides the opportunity to build technical accounting expertise through involvement in financial reporting, auditing, taxation, reconciliations, and business improvement projects.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support the production of half-year and year-end financial reporting requirements.
  • Assist with interim and year-end external audit processes.
  • Prepare VAT returns and Office for National Statistics (ONS) submissions.
  • Perform month-end accounting activities, including journal postings and ledger close procedures.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and support lease accounting activities.
  • Maintain subcontractor authorisations and support new customer account set-ups.
  • Assist with tax reporting and overhead analysis.
  • Document, review, and help improve finance processes and procedures.
  • Support finance projects and provide ad hoc analysis and reporting as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Finance and the wider business to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline, or experience within a finance role.
  • Part-qualified or currently studying towards a professional accounting qualification such as AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
  • Good accounting knowledge and an understanding of financial processes and reporting.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, with the ability to analyse and interpret financial data.
  • Excellent diligence and organisational skills.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • An initiative-taking approach with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • Experience working in a similar accounting or finance role.
  • Experience using COINS or other finance/accounting systems.
  • Experience supporting audits, financial reporting, VAT returns, or month-end processes.

This is a study-supported role, offering the opportunity to work towards a professional accounting qualification such as ACCA or CIMA while gaining valuable hands-on experience across a wide range of finance activities.
