Assistant Accountant
Location: Chesterfield
Type: Permanent / Full Time / Office Based
Are you looking to take the next step in your accounting career within a fast-paced, established business?
We’re working with a fantastic organisation that is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join their finance team, playing an important role in ensuring financial information is accurate, timely and fully reconciled each month.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is early in their accounting career and keen to broaden their experience across financial accounting, with exposure to month-end, reconciliations, journals, cashflow and wider financial reporting.
What will you be doing?
You’ll take responsibility for a varied range of accounting duties, including:
- Preparing and reviewing balance sheet, P&L and intercompany reconciliations
- Maintaining and reconciling the fixed asset register
- Preparing and posting journals
- Managing prepayments and accruals
- Supporting the preparation of cashflow forecasts and cashflow reporting
- Reviewing and processing employee expenses
- Assisting with weekly and monthly financial reporting
- Working closely with the wider finance team to ensure information is accurate and delivered within deadlines

The ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will be AAT, ACA, ACCA or CIMA part-qualified, or a recent Finance graduate looking to build a career within industry, with the below skills:
- Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUPS and Pivot Tables
- Experience of balance sheet reconciliations
- A good eye for detail and a methodical approach
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial information
- Good communication and presentation skills
- The ability to work independently and meet deadlines, particularly around month-end and year-end
- A flexible and adaptable approach to changing business requirements
- The enthusiasm and resilience to build a long-term career within finance
