Assistant Accountant/Finance Officer
Our client is a growing, privately owned business in Brecon. They are seeking an Assistant Accountant/Finance Officer to provide hands-on support to the Financial Controller and collaborate with other departments on financial and business matters.
This is a practical role for an experienced finance professional who values accuracy, process discipline, and a constructive, professional working style.
What you will be doing:
- Supporting day-to-day accounting processes, including sales and purchase invoice accounting, bank/cash reconciliations, and journal posting (one-off and recurring)
- Assisting with VAT-related activities, including required adjustments and ensuring filings are accurate and supported by appropriate records
- Contributing to fixed asset accounting (including disposals) and maintaining hire purchase and loan documentation
- Supporting stock accounting activities, including preparation for periodic stock counts
- Assisting with prepayments, accruals, and deferred income schedules
- Supporting customer-related processes, including credit control activities such as chasing outstanding payments and handling payment processing
- Contributing to month-end and year-end support, including investigating key variances and preparing information for accounts production
- Working with external auditors/accountants as required
- Supporting import/export accounting and compliance where applicable

- 3+ years’ experience in a busy commercial finance environment, with accounting technician status or qualification by experience
- Practical working knowledge of cloud accounting software (Xero or similar preferred) and strong Microsoft Office 365 skills (Excel in particular)
- A methodical and accurate approach, with flexibility in a busy office setting
- Clear communication skills, able to work openly and supportively with colleagues, customers, and suppliers while protecting business interests and working within policies
