About the Role

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

As an Accounts Assistant Apprentice at Black & White Accounting, you’ll join a friendly, supportive team and get stuck into real client work straight away. You won’t just be making tea or watching from the sidelines — you’ll be developing practical skills that will set you up for a future career in accounting.

Your day-to-day could include:

  • Bookkeeping
  • VAT returns
  • Payroll
  • CIS
  • Year-end accounts
  • Personal tax returns

You’ll also contact clients to gather records and information, help answer their questions and build great relationships with them, giving you valuable experience in customer service and client communication too.

You’ll work with different businesses, industries and accounting software, so there will always be something new to learn. As your skills and confidence grow, you’ll be trusted with more responsibility and encouraged to take ownership of your work.

What You'll Do

  • Carry out bookkeeping and maintain accurate financial records for clients.
  • Assist with preparing VAT returns, year-end accounts and personal tax returns.
  • Support payroll processing and CIS submissions.
  • Contact clients to request records, documents and any missing information needed to complete their work.
  • Build positive relationships with clients by answering queries and providing friendly, professional customer service.
  • Use accounting software and digital systems to process and organise financial information.
  • Support the wider accounts team with day-to-day client work and administrative tasks.
  • Take responsibility for meeting deadlines and keeping client records up to date.
  • Develop technical accounting knowledge and apply learning from the AAT Level 3 qualification in the workplace.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
