Assistant Accountant (PR/Professional Services)

6-Month Fixed-Term Contract (with strong potential to become permanent)

About the Role
We are seeking a talented and motivated Assistant Accountant to join a dynamic, international professional services organisation. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking to broaden their experience across both financial accounting and commercial finance within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Working closely with the wider finance team and key business stakeholders, you'll play a vital role in supporting financial operations, reporting, payroll, billing, and commercial analysis, while contributing to the continued growth and success of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting

  • Support the maintenance of accurate accounting records.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and board reporting packs.
  • Contribute to month-end and year-end close processes, including journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support payroll processing, including PAYE and pension administration.
  • Prepare and issue client invoices and assist with intercompany invoicing.
  • Assist with accounts receivable activities and debt collection processes.
  • Support analysis of WIP, revenue billing, and related financial performance metrics.
  • Assist with statutory reporting, audits, VAT returns, annual returns, and corporation tax compliance.

Commercial Finance

  • Support the preparation and review of client agreements and Statements of Work.
  • Maintain client and project information within the finance system.
  • Assist with staff utilisation, profitability, and commercial performance analysis.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to provide financial insight and support informed decision-making.

About You
We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and eager to develop their finance career. You will ideally have:

  • Experience of working in a Media Agency or professional services is highly preferred but not required.
  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in a finance or accounting role.
  • Part-qualified status (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) desirable.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and financial principles.
  • Good knowledge of UK financial compliance requirements, including VAT and HMRC regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A collaborative, proactive approach, and a strong work ethic.
