Change Accountancy & Finance is delighted to be partnering with a well-established business operating within a specialist industrial and engineering environment to recruit an Assistant Accountant into its finance team based in Alloa.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to join a growing organisation and gain exposure to management accounting, stock accounting, financial reporting, and business partnering. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the finance function while working closely with operational teams across the business.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will support the preparation of management accounts, assist with stock and inventory accounting, and contribute to accurate financial reporting and compliance activities. This role will suit someone with previous finance experience who enjoys working with data, solving problems, and supporting operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
- Analyse margins, investigate variances, and provide financial insight.
- Maintain financial ledgers and support year-end reporting and audits.
- Reconcile stock balances and investigate inventory discrepancies.
- Prepare stock ageing reports and support stock counts.
- Partner with operational teams on stock and inventory-related matters.
- Assist with VAT returns, customs compliance, and audit requirements.
- Support ERP systems and contribute to process and reporting improvements.
- Prepare journals, reconciliations, and month-end schedules.
- Deliver ad hoc financial analysis and support business decision-making.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.

Candidate Profile
We are keen to speak with candidates who are looking to develop a career within finance and accounting and who enjoy working in a fast-paced, operational environment.
Key Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within a Finance Assistant, Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant, or similar finance role.
- Experience supporting month-end processes and reconciliations.
- Exposure to stock or inventory accounting would be advantageous.
- Part-qualified ACCA, CIMA, or ICAS, or currently studying towards a professional qualification.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Confident user of Excel and financial systems.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage workload effectively and work collaboratively with stakeholders.
