Assistant Accounts Manager (Surrey) - £50-55,000

A well-established Surrey-based professional services firm with an international presence is looking to appoint an experienced Assistant Accounts Manager to join its growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant with strong technical and client-facing experience to take on a leadership role within a diverse business services function, supporting a varied portfolio of UK and international clients across a range of interesting sectors.

The Opportunity

Working as part of the Accounting team, you’ll play an important role in overseeing client work, supporting junior team members, and delivering high-quality accounting and advisory services.

The role offers exposure to a broad and diverse client base, including businesses operating across areas such as technology, luxury retail, motorsport, engineering, arts, and other specialist sectors.

You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with clients, develop strong relationships, contribute to business improvement projects, and further develop your technical and leadership skills within a supportive professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and review management accounts and statutory accounts for UK and international businesses
  • Provide technical guidance and support on accounting, VAT, PAYE, and wider business matters
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual VAT returns
  • Support start-up and growing businesses with their accounting and financial requirements
  • Assist with the implementation and development of accounting and financial systems
  • Manage financial reporting requirements across limited companies, LLP's, partnerships, and sole traders
  • Delegate work effectively and provide training, mentoring, and development support to junior team members
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing a high-quality and commercially focused service
  • Contribute to wider accounting projects and process improvements

About You

  • ACA, ACCA (or equivalent) qualified
  • Strong technical knowledge of management and statutory accounting (under FRS 102)
  • Previous experience within a UK accountancy practice or professional services environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing junior team members
  • Strong client management and relationship-building abilities
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident working independently while also contributing effectively within a team
  • Strong IT and accounting systems experience
  • Professional, proactive, and commercially minded approach
