Interim Assistant Accountant | 9 Month Contract | Manchester / Hybrid | to £32K

We are supporting an international charity to recruit an Interim Assistant Accountant for its Central Finance team in Manchester to cover a 9 month Maternity Contract. This broad role covers month-end reporting, payroll, ledgers, banking and audit support. It would suit someone with strong bookkeeping knowledge who can investigate variances, manage deadlines and work confidently with colleagues and external contacts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support month-end close, balance-sheet reconciliations and journal postings.
  • Prepare management accounts and finance reports.
  • Complete VAT returns and reconcile control accounts.
  • Review and reconcile UK payroll including journals.
  • Process invoices, payments and aged debtor/creditor reports.
  • Reconcile bank, supplier, customer, expenses and corporate card transactions.
  • Support statutory accounts, grant audits and external audits.
  • Respond to finance queries and contribute to process improvements.

What You Will Need

  • Experience producing and analysing financial information.
  • Sound double-entry bookkeeping knowledge.
  • AAT Level 3-4 or equivalent practical experience.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
  • The ability to manage deadlines and work independently or within a team.
  • Clear communication skills

Experience within a charity would be advantageous but not essential.
