Sutton United Football Club is seeking a motivated, analytical and detail-oriented Assistant Analyst to support the club's Performance Analysis department. This unpaid, voluntary internship provides an excellent opportunity for an aspiring football analyst to gain hands-on experience in match analysis, opposition scouting, data interpretation and performance reporting within a professional football environment.
The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation of opposition reports, post-match reviews and player analysis while developing practical skills in video analysis software and football intelligence. The role reports to the First Team Coach and is based at the club's training ground in Tooting & Mitcham and the stadium on Gander Green Lane. It is ideally suited to undergraduate or postgraduate students studying Performance Analysis, Sports Analysis or a related discipline seeking a placement as part of their academic programme.
Responsibilities
- Assist in producing detailed opposition scouting reports.
- Analyse opposition playing styles, tactical structures and key trends.
- Create video playlists highlighting key patterns of play and individual player behaviours.
- Code first team matches using analysis software.
- Support the production of post-match reports and presentations.
- Collect and organise technical and tactical performance data.
- Assist in maintaining the club's video database.
- Analyse individual player performances and monitor tactical principles and team behaviours.
- Support benchmarking against league and positional standards.
- Contribute ideas to improve existing analysis workflows and support data visualisation projects.
- Assist coaching staff with presentation materials and help prepare match-day analysis resources.
- Undertake administrative tasks within the analysis department and attend department meetings where appropriate.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of football tactics and game principles, with the ability to analyse football objectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends around fixtures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable:
- Experience using analysis software (Hudl Sportscode, Hudl Studio, Wyscout, StatsBomb, Nacsport, Coach Paint or similar).
- Experience producing opposition reports and an understanding of football data and KPIs.
- A degree (or studying towards) in Sports Coaching, Performance Analysis, Sports Science or a related subject, and previous experience within a football club or academy environment.
Location: Gander Green Lane, Sutton, SM1 2EY / Imperial Fields, Bishopsford Road, Morden, SM4 6BF (training ground based in Tooting & Mitcham).
Contract: Unpaid, voluntary internship. Reports to the First Team Coach.
