About the role
Imperial Business School is seeking qualified applicants for faculty positions in its Department of Economics & Public Policy at the rank of Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor in Economics.
Applicants for the position of Assistant Professor should have the potential to publish innovative, rigorous, and relevant contributions in top academic journals and to develop into excellent teachers. Candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position should demonstrate considerable excellence in research, teaching, and service. The appointed candidates will be encouraged to proactively engage in research grant applications; Imperial’s strategy “Science for Humanity” provides significant opportunities for interdisciplinary research.
As with most business schools, most of the department’s teaching focuses on applied economics, management, and analytics modules. The first students on our innovative undergraduate degree in Economics, Finance, and Data Science finished their studies this summer; our MSc programs include Economics and Strategy for Business and an interdisciplinary degree in Climate Change, Management, and Finance. Our interdisciplinary MSc in AI, Economics, and Policy, taught jointly with the Department of Computing, will admit its first students in September 2027.
Applications from women, BAME, and other groups who are currently underrepresented in the School are especially welcome. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for neurodiversity and disability-associated needs.
The initial interviews will be conducted virtually in December, and fly-outs will be in January/February.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
