We're looking for an Assistant Authorising Engineer to join our Engineering and Operational Safety team, playing a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant and effective operation of Cadent's critical gas network assets.
Working closely with Authorising Engineers, operational teams and Local Delivery Partners (LDPs), you'll provide technical assurance, engineering oversight and specialist advice across a wide range of network activities. You'll review, inspect and authorise engineering work, support the delivery of Safe Control of Operations (SCO), and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards and engineering policies.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional looking to influence safety, improve operational performance and contribute to the continued reliability of one of the UK's most important infrastructure networks.

What You Will Bring
- Degree-qualified engineer (or equivalent experience) with Engineering Chartership or the capability to operate at an equivalent professional level, supported by a valid UK driving licence.
- Strong engineering and operational experience gained within gas, utilities, infrastructure or other safety-critical environments, with a sound understanding of network operations and asset management.
- Technical assurance expertise including inspections, reviews, authorisation processes, engineering assessments and the implementation of remedial or corrective actions.
- Knowledge of key legislation, standards and engineering governance frameworks, including PSSR, PSR, EWR, SCO processes, engineering instructions, codes of practice and statutory regulations.
- Safety-focused mindset with experience promoting positive safety cultures, investigating incidents, assessing risk and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, able to evaluate engineering risks, challenge existing practices and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence operational teams, contractors, Local Delivery Partners and technical specialists at all levels.
- Desirable experience within gas distribution/transmission, contractor or operational delivery environments, together with knowledge of engineering assurance frameworks and utility network operations.
