Ashton Gate Stadium - Assistant Bar Manager

Ashton Gate Stadium is a leading sports and entertainment venue in Bristol, known for hosting a wide range of high-profile events including football, rugby, concerts, and corporate functions. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Bar Manager to oversee bar operations, ensuring exceptional guest experiences and efficient service delivery. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive leader with strong operational skills in a high-energy, high-volume environment.

Job Purpose

To support the bar manager operate Bars across the stadium, ensuring smooth service during Match Days and non-Match Day events. Leading a team of bar supervisors, staff, and casual workers, the Assistant Bar Manager will support the Bar manager to ensure top-notch service and adherence to health and safety standards, while also focusing on operational excellence.

Key Objectives

  • To manage and oversee all aspects of all bar areas in the stadium to ensure a high standard of service throughout all events within the stadium.
  • Motivate and develop a team of bar staff, ensuring high service standards.
  • Provide excellent service, addressing customer queries and complaints promptly.
  • Support the Bar Manager to manage inventory levels, placing orders and minimizing waste.
  • Ensure adherence to all health and safety regulations, including alcohol licensing laws.
  • Oversee till operations and work with the team to meet sales and profit targets.
  • Provide training for bar staff, focusing on service standards, product knowledge, and health and safety.
  • Monitor product quality and ensure consistent service standards across all bars.

Key Responsibilities (KPIs)

  • Support the Bar Manager to ensure high levels of Guest satisfaction
  • Support the Bar Manager to ensure growth in each bar area raising revenue, SPH and conversion
  • Improve speed of service for waiting times and queue management
  • Lead large teams across multiple bars within events and match days delivering consistent quality service
  • Adhering to all Ashton Gate Processes and SOP's
  • Managing EHO and health and safety standards across all bars
  • Support the Bar Manager to manage and maintain stock levels and support monthly stock taking
  • Support the Bar Manager in the ordering, deliveries, and storage of all drink relating stocks
  • Ensure quality of product is maintained throughout the stadium

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in a stadium bar environment as a Bar Supervisor or similar role in a large venue or hospitality setting
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent customer service and guest experience focus
  • Solid understanding of stock control, ordering, and inventory management
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and alcohol licensing laws
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and event days

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in a stadium or high-profile event venue
  • Personal license or willingness to obtain one
  • Knowledge of Gross Profit (GP) and strategies for driving profitability
  • Experience managing large beverage stocks and optimizing profitability

Hours: 5 out of 7 days to include evenings and weekends

Salary: £29,000 per annum
