Assistant Building Manager – Urban Real Estate (Regional) role at The Crown Estate
About The Crown Estate
At The Crown Estate, we manage land and property on behalf of the nation, creating lasting value for communities, businesses and the environment. Our urban portfolio includes some of London’s most iconic destinations, and our Facilities Management team plays a vital role in delivering safe, sustainable and exceptional places to work and visit.
The Role
We are seeking an Assistant Building Manager to support the day-to-day management of one or more urban assets within our London portfolio. Working closely with the Building Manager and wider Facilities Management team, you will help deliver best-in-class facilities services, ensure compliance, and contribute to an outstanding customer experience for our occupiers.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in Facilities Management within a values-led, high-profile organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support a safety-first culture, assisting with health & safety, fire safety and statutory compliance across the building(s).
- Assist the Building Manager with day-to-day operations, covering both hard and soft FM services.
- Support the management of contractors, including reviewing RAMS, issuing permits to work and monitoring performance.
- Help maintain site compliance records, including fire and water logbooks, inspections and audits.
- Work closely with occupiers, providing a high-quality customer service and supporting fit-out projects in line with TCE processes.
- Assist with financial management, including service charge and OPEX budgets, purchase orders, variance reporting and reconciliations.
- Build strong relationships with service partners to ensure delivery in line with lease obligations and agreed KPIs.
- Support planned and reactive maintenance, major works projects and liaising with surveyors, consultants and insurers as required.
- Contribute to The Crown Estate’s ambition to deliver a net zero carbon estate by 2030, supporting building-level sustainability initiatives.
- Support business continuity planning, emergency response and evacuation drills.
- Deputise for the Building Manager or Facilities Manager during periods of absence, with senior support.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
