About The Role
Excited by the idea of being at the heart of a fast-moving retail business? Whether you're a recent graduate looking to kick-start your career or someone who's already gained experience in buying, merchandising, supply chain, or retail, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your commercial skills and make a real impact. As an Assistant Buyer at AO, you'll play a key role in supporting the delivery of exciting product ranges across some of the biggest brands in the industry, including Samsung, LG, Hotpoint and Hisense. You'll gain hands-on experience in all aspects of the buying lifecycle - from analysing sales trends and managing promotions to working with suppliers and supporting commercial negotiations. Our people are our superpower, and we're unstoppable when we're together. We want your ideas to flow, and what better way to make that happen than being based onsite, 5 days a week, where our culture fuels creativity, collaboration and growth. If a £1 bet in the pub between two friends can become the UK's most trusted electrical retailer, imagine what else can be achieved when we're together.
Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing
- Make sure products look their best online with the right details, images, and pricing
- Support the Buyer by using sales and market insights to help build exciting, commercially strong ranges
- Keep track of competitor activity and suggest ways to improve performance
- Manage and update the promotional plan, working closely with marketing and supply chain for smooth launches
- Collaborate with the stock team to maintain availability and help with forecasting
- Ensure all systems are accurate and up to date, resolving any pricing issues quickly
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and internal teams to unlock the best opportunities
- Get involved in supplier negotiations and brand range reviews - bringing your ideas to the table

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
