Location: Wotton:under:Edge Town Council, The Civic Centre, 2 Gloucester Street, Wotton:under:Edge, GL12 7DN

Salary: A GBP 36,581 : A GBP 40,444 per annum pro rata (SCP 24 : 28)

Contract: Permanent, Part:Time. 27 hours per week with some weekends and evening for meetings and other events

Supporting Wotton’s day-to-day operations and helping deliver excellent services for the community.

Wotton:under:Edge Town Council is strengthening how it works as it prepares for future responsibilities and rising expectations. As part of this, we are growing our team and looking for an Assistant Clerk who can provide reliable operational support, help maintain strong governance and ensure the Council’s services run smoothly.

About The Role

This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of the Council’s daily operations. You will support governance and democratic processes with responsibility for clerking the Planning Committee, manage our allotments and tenants, and oversee the Council’s One:Stop Shop, ensuring residents can easily access information, services and support. You will help deliver community events and contribute to the Council’s wider public-facing services, visitor information, facilities and communication, ensuring they remain responsive, well-organised and easy for residents to engage with. In addition, you will support digital updates and service coordination to help keep the Council accessible and connected and the town continues to grow.

About You

You will bring:

  • Experience in a busy administrative or customer-facing role, and ability to work with people from all walks of life
  • Strong administrative capability with accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
  • Confidence supporting governance processes, including preparing agendas, minutes and documentation.
  • Clear communication skills and a helpful, professional approach to public-facing work.
  • Ability to manage competing tasks and maintain calm, structured working during busy periods.
  • Commitment to public service and supporting the Council’s work for the community.
