Role Description

This is a full-time, office-based role in London for a Senior Accountant / Client Manager. The position is a mixed role, with approximately 60% of the workload focused on personal tax and 40% on company accounts and related compliance work. The successful candidate will manage both individual clients and owner-managed businesses, taking responsibility for their tax and accounting requirements and developing strong, long-term client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Personal Tax – approximately 60%

  • Preparing and reviewing Self Assessment tax returns and Making Tax Digital (MTD) returns for a varied portfolio of clients
  • Reviewing bookkeeping records & VAT returns
  • Liaising with HMRC and dealing with tax matters and correspondence
  • Managing personal tax deadlines and ensuring returns are completed accurately and on time
  • Communicating directly with clients to obtain information, explain tax liabilities and provide practical tax advice
  • Working closely with other members of the team to ensure clients receive a high-quality and responsive service

Company Accounts & Compliance – approximately 40%

  • Preparing annual accounts for limited companies and owner-managed businesses
  • Preparing corporation tax computations and returns
  • Reviewing bookkeeping records and VAT returns
  • Assisting clients with accounting, VAT and general business queries

The Candidate

We are looking for an accountant with strong personal tax experience combined with a good understanding of company accounts and corporation tax. The ideal candidate will be technically capable, organised and comfortable managing their own workload and communicating directly with clients. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proactive approach and be keen to develop beyond a purely compliance-focused position. There will be opportunities to take greater ownership of client relationships, provide wider tax and business advice, and progress into a Client Manager role.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a genuinely mixed position with a strong personal tax focus, while continuing to develop their accounts, corporation tax and client management experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience in managing financial records, bookkeeping, and preparing annual accounts
  • Proficiency in preparing tax returns and ensuring compliance with tax regulations
  • Skills in managing client accounts
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
  • Familiarity with accounting software and tools (QuickBooks, Xero etc)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with future potential to take client meetings
  • Relevant qualifications such as AAT, ACCA or equivalent are preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • 4-5 years of experience in an accountancy practice
  • Must be located within a commutable distance to London Bridge SE1.
