Assistant Commercial Manager
Salary: Competitive plus company car or car allowance
Location: Swindon preferred, with the option to be based from Watford Head Office
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
We are hiring for an Assistant Commercial Manager to join our Facilities Management team and play a key role in the commercial success of a portfolio of long-term PFI contracts. This is an excellent opportunity to work across complex environments, build strong relationships with stakeholders, and contribute to the performance of high-profile public sector facilities. You will also have the opportunity to support and develop junior team members while expanding your own commercial expertise.
Job Description
As Assistant Commercial Manager, you will support the commercial management of long-term PFI and Facilities Management contracts, helping to ensure strong financial performance, contractual compliance, and effective service delivery. Working closely with operational teams, clients, and supply chain partners, you will provide commercial guidance, manage change processes, and contribute to financial planning activities.

The role offers exposure to a diverse portfolio of contracts and projects, where you will be involved in forecasting, lifecycle planning, procurement activities, and stakeholder engagement. You will also play an important role in supporting commercial best practice, mentoring developing colleagues, and helping to drive continuous improvement across the business.
Responsibilities
- Support the commercial management of PFI contracts and performance mechanisms.
- Assist with lifecycle planning, forecasting, and cost management activities.
- Prepare and negotiate contract variations, compensation events, and change requests.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.
- Manage subcontractor procurement activities and commercial performance.
- Monitor contractual compliance, service performance, and key performance indicators.
- Support stakeholder engagement and dispute avoidance activities.
- Provide commercial advice to operational and Facilities Management teams.
- Assist with audits, benchmarking exercises, and open-book reviews.
- Coach and mentor developing commercial colleagues, supporting their professional growth.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Commercial Manager role.
- Strong understanding of PFI or PPP contracts.
- Background in Facilities Management, including hard or soft services.
- Knowledge of lifecycle costing and long-term financial planning.
- Understanding of NEC, PFI, or similar contract forms.
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operational teams and clients.
- Experience supporting budgets, forecasts, and month-end commercial activities.
- Ability to coach, guide, and support the development of others.
