Assistant Cook

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

As an Assistant Cook, you will support with the preparation, cooking, and serving of high-quality meals in a hygienic and well-organised kitchen environment. You will play a key role in ensuring meals are produced safely, efficiently, and in line with food hygiene and nutritional standards.

Your Responsibilities

  • Preparing, cooking, and packing meals following set menus, recipes, and procedures
  • Supporting the Cook and deputising in their absence
  • Acting as Cook during weekend shifts
  • Assisting with stock control and food ordering when working within the week
  • Maintaining high standards of kitchen hygiene, including cleaning equipment and work areas
  • Setting up and cleaning dining areas as required
  • Supporting and guiding kitchen staff, including assisting with rotas and training new staff
  • Ensuring compliance with HACCP, food hygiene, and health and safety regulations
  • Attending training as required and participating in performance development processes

Essential Requirement

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety

An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.

This is a hands-on role in a busy kitchen, ideal for someone who enjoys teamwork, takes pride in their work, and is passionate about supporting vulnerable members of the community.

Hours

  • 7:00-11:30 alternate weekends and public holidays.
