Job Title: Assistant Design Manager
Location: Nottinghamshire
Salary: £32,500–£37,000 + package
Company: 1st Tier Main Contractor
We are recruiting on behalf of a 1st Tier Main Contractor for an Assistant Design Manager to join their team in Nottinghamshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in design management, working closely with Senior Design Managers across tenders and projects in progress.
The Opportunity
As an Assistant Design Manager, you will support Senior Design Managers with day-to-day activities across both bid and delivery stages.
You will gain valuable experience across design coordination, design strategy, programme management, compliance and the relationship between design, commercial and construction requirements.
You will assist with agreed elements of the design process through the RIBA design stages, helping to deliver a professional, comprehensive and sustainable design service for the client and key partners and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the management of design resources and team profiles at bid and delivery stages.
- Assist with the implementation of design strategy and approach.
- Coordinate agreed elements of the design process through the RIBA design stages.
- Assist with design reviews and coordination meetings.
- Assist in producing fully coordinated design programmes and monitor progress against programme.
- Report progress to the project team and identify the need for design reviews.
- Support the delivery of coordinated design solutions.
- Ensure adherence to the design brief, scope of service and defined specifications.
- Assist with coordination between the design team, contractors and statutory bodies, including Local Authority planners, Building Control and HSE.
- Maintain awareness of current legislation, standards, codes of practice and compliance requirements.
- Understand the relationship between design development, commercial and construction requirements and cost plan budget allowances.
- Assist with the change control process, ensuring changes are accounted for, authorised and implemented as required.
- Challenge elements of the brief and contribute fresh thinking, innovation and continuous improvement.

About You:
- An HND, HNC or Degree.
- Membership of a professional body is preferred but not essential.
- Some experience in a tendering environment or design development before construction.
- Experience in one or more of the following sectors: Education, Health, Manufacturing, Industrial, Leisure, Transport or Residential.
- Some knowledge of construction practices and standards within your subject area.
- Good writing, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to manage a given list of tasks and work effectively within agreed time and budget constraints.
- Some supervision skills.
- The ability to communicate clearly and present information in a structured way.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A positive attitude towards change and continuous improvement.
- The judgement to know when to ask for help and guidance.
