Role Description
The Assistant Director of Engineering is a full-time, on-site role based at Hotel Café Royal in London. This role supports the Director of Engineering in overseeing all engineering operations, including building maintenance, mechanical and electrical systems, and infrastructure reliability across the hotel, spa, and dining venues.

- Planning and supervising maintenance schedules
- Coordinating improvement projects
- Managing vendor relationships
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Leading and developing the engineering team
- Monitoring performance and service standards
- Responding to operational issues to minimize disruption to guests and colleagues
- Working closely with other departments to support hotel initiatives
- Optimizing energy efficiency
- Contributing to long-term asset management and capital planning
Qualifications
- Strong Engineering Management and Team Leadership skills
- Experience supervising technical teams in a hospitality or commercial property environment
- Solid Project Management and Integration skills
- Coordinating multi-disciplinary projects
- Managing contractors
- Integrating new systems with existing infrastructure
- Foundation in Software Development or relevant technical systems understanding
- Building management systems (BMS)
- Hotel technology platforms
- Maintenance software
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments
- Relevant engineering qualifications (e.g., degree or diploma in mechanical, electrical, or building services engineering)
- Knowledge of UK building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations
- Experience in luxury hospitality, facilities management, and energy efficiency initiatives
- Flexibility to work on-site and adapt to operational needs
