Assistant Driller
We’re looking for an Assistant Driller to join our team; assisting the Lead Driller on a Comacchio rotary drilling rig, associated mud cleaning plant and ancillary site equipment. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, maintaining site cleanliness and preparedness, ensuring that the rig is attended to, materials stocked safely, and consumables ready as required.
Location: This is a Nationwide role, and the candidate must be willing to travel for work (expenses paid) The successful candidate will need to pass drug and alcohol screening and be capable of passing both a safety critical medical certificate, and DBS checks.
Experience and Skills:
- Experience of drilling operations is preferred but not essential
- Experience working outdoors, preferably in construction environments is essential
- CSCS card, or the ability to obtain one
- Emergency First Aid at Work is preferred but not essential
- Telehandler ticket/license is preferred but not essential
- Full UK Driving license
- Effective and clear communication and interpersonal skills

As an Assistant Driller, your duties will include:
- Support in the operation of drilling rigs (Comacchio GEO602, 900 and 909GT) and related equipment to drill geothermal boreholes on land-based sites, to depths in excess of 200m.
- Operation of mud cleaning/recycling equipment and deployment of a site-specific mud programme to allow the efficient, clean drilling of closed-loop GSHP boreholes.
- Installation of closed-loop heat collectors in vertical and inclined boreholes, grouting and completion per design specification.
- Ensuring that the site is clean, tidy, and all materials stocked safely and efficiently.
- Delivering equipment readiness at all times, ensuring that consumables are replaced, and equipment safe and fueled for use.
- Complete QA/QC testing on installed loops and ensure good records are kept.
- Ensure drilling activities comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance; troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform basic field repairs.
